Estelle Ellis is an award-winning journalist with more than two decades of experience in investigative reporting, focusing on social justice, health systems, and municipal governance. Holding a BA (Law), B. Hons Journalism, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Future Studies, Estelle’s work has consistently exposed critical issues that affect the most vulnerable members of society.

Estelle’s tenacious journalism led to the successful prevention of the closure of state frailcare facilities in 2019, a potential crisis reminiscent of the Life Esidimeni tragedy. Her team’s reporting on the collapse of pediatric health services in South Africa played a crucial role in the appointment of nurses at Dora Nginza Hospital. By going to the ground in remote communities, Estelle’s work has directly led to positive change — including convincing Dr Imtiaz Sooliman of Gift of the Givers to provide a much-needed borehole to a village facing a water crisis.
